More about Jono
Having studied classical and jazz music and choral singing throughout school, Jono picked up the guitar at the age of 14 and set about becoming the musician he is today. His abilities as a composer and performer have seen him excel in numerous projects across the dynamic and varied SA music scene.
Did you know? Jono is no stranger to Stanford. Stanford has been his home away from home since he was about 2 years old. His parents relinquished him into the care of his aunt and uncle, Mariana and Peter Esterhuizen for a weekend and the experiment proved wildly successful so it went on to be repeated till today!
Jono shares: “I remember many childhood school holidays riding the town flat on my bicycle – these were the days when Victoria Street was the only tar road in the whole village! My favourite time to be there was always winter holidays as that meant Peter and I would be crafting boats in his workshop to go and sail on the flood banks of the river.”
“Getting to visit the village these days to give back with my music is one of the great joys of my life. The idyllic pastoral feeling of having grown up in the village, to some extent, has always been a source of inspiration that creeps into some of the more tender-hearted songs I’ve written. While I’ve yet to name-drop it, when I evoke feelings of deep yearning for a distant home, Stanford is the place that comes closest to matching that feeling”
Please note that this music evening is a “concert” we kindly ask you not to talk during the performance out of respect to the musician and to those who have come to listen to the music – thank you!
